Summertime Moss (Bog Pool)

Acidic pools of bog water fed by the rain are found across the surface of The Moss, catching the light and shadows of sky and clouds reflecting back at me. Rushes, heather and the white cotton heads of cotton grass surround the pools and many, like this one, contain wood from 4,500-year-old petrified pines preserved in the peat until the peat cutters disturbed them and exposed them to the atmosphere.  And no, there are no fish, let alone giant ones, living in the strongly acidic bog water!
