Closing Chapter Two and on to Chapter Three!

Following the death of our long-standing MP, Sir Gerald Kaufman in 2017, Creative Rusholme set out to encourage community groups and local organisations to plant 47 trees – one for each year he represented the area in Parliament.  By June 2021, we were able to celebrate the achievement of this objective and his successor, Afzal Kahn, planted the first of a planned 470 trees.

A survey of the wider Rusholme area in September, confirmed that 467 trees had now been planted and on Saturday 18th November, Sarah Underwood of MMU Business School planted the 270th tree.

At the same event, Afzal Kahn MP announced a 4,700 Tree Project throughout the new Rusholme constituency and planted the first tree – an oak. We hope that a positive tree planting and aftercare project will engage communities, increase biodiversity and build hope.

Creative Rusholme has been supported by Friends of Platt Fields, In Our Nature Rusholme, MMU Business School, Manchester City Council and the Platt Hall In Between Project.
