Call for Action to Remember Nature. Artist Phil Barton has announced a call for action in Greater Manchester and beyond commencing on 4th November 2017, two years on from Gustav Metzger’s original call issued in London.  Metzger died earlier this year and shortly afterwards his ‘Flailing Trees’ auto-destructed in Whitworth Park, Manchester. Portrait of a Street at Victoria Baths

Phil Barton’s photographs were shown at Victoria Baths in Rusholme over the heritage weekend 9th/ 10th September.  Visited by over 1,000, feedback on the portraits, which were hung in the Edwardian changing cubicles alongside the ‘Men’s First Class’ or ‘Gala’ Pool, was overwhelmingly positive.

[Re]Cycling Tree installed at All Saints Park

Phil Barton’s installation is now encircling a young ash tree as part of his Foundation Year Show at Manchester School of Art.  Installed as a response to the felling of around 120 trees along the Oxford Road Corridor in the past two years, the installation illustrates the value trees provide to our life support systems. Pilgimage for Nature reaches Whalley Range

Successful workshops were held with the community of St Margaret’s over the first two Sundays in Lent. Wythensawe Menorah yew tree planting

Following the successful Pilgrimage for Nature workshop at the synagogue in November, the yew seedling presented to them by Centre for Connected Practice has spent the winter happily in their grounds. And yesterday, following the festival of Tu BiShvat (New Year of Trees) on 10th/11th of February, the seedling was planted out by children and members of the Menorah in a moving ceremony.  Yew trees live for over 1,000 years and are a symbol of our need to move our focus…
